WE WERE A START UP
IKAWA For Professionals began as a start up in London in 2010
by Andrew Stordy and Rombout Frieling. Their idea was to create
a coffee roaster that was repeatable and consistent, so
anyone could roast a sample perfectly.
In 2012 they debuted the original IKAWA Sample Roaster at
SCA World of Coffee. From that moment onwards, versions of that
original roaster have been sold to 74 countries around the world,
helping coffee professionals roast samples, save time, and connect
with each other around the world.
It’s takes a group, and shareable roast profiles mean we can all grow together. From coffee competitions to farms, cupping labs and roasteries, we love seeing our Sample Roaster assist, elevate, and improve. And even more so when people do so by sharing profiles and information.
We created a roaster to revolutionise sample roasting, and much of that movement is powered by the connectivity of the roast profiles.
The success at coffee competitions has been
remarkable, and has allowed us to help
Some of the competitors that have used IKAWA have seen the value in sharing information, and have let us share their successful roast profiles with all IKAWA users. It has created a foundation of roast profiles for the online library, and provided new entrants to coffee competitions more information to help them achieve greater results.
We know there are coffees that don’t get a fair evaluation because of a bad roast. We want to make sample evaluation fair, easy, and accessible for anyone, anywhere. IKAWA users world wide are connecting and creating better sample evaluation everywhere. It’s a revolution.
