Next time you update your apps, you’ll notice there’s a new IKAWA Home app for both android and iOS. Improvements to this version of the app include improved User Account and cloud based back-up of your roast recipes across devices, new roast recipes, refreshed design with better interface and other features for you to discover.
This post gives you a tour of the new features, helps you to adjust to the new app, and explain some aspects in more depth.
So what’s new?
First up – if you currently use the IKAWA Home app, you’ll be pleased to know that your existing roast recipes will pull through to the new app when you update.
Improved User Accounts
All users of the IKAWA Home app will need a user account. If you currently have a user account, use the same details to log-in to your new app. If not, follow the steps to set upyour new account.
We’ve made these changes so that you will never lose your roast recipes. Even if you lose your phone. Every day you use the roaster, your roast recipes will back-up to the cloud, and you’ll be able to restore backups whenever you would like.
The ability to restore backups is not new, but in this version of the app, it’s massively improved.
With the new cloud based accounts, the back-up of your roast recipes means you can have all your roast recipes accessible together, even if you create them on different devices, as long as you’ve signed into your same user account.
You’ll notice if you were using your tablet on Saturday morning, then you decide to log-in with your iPhone on Sunday, your roast recipes will sync to it.
Refreshed Design
Aside from editing your User Account, in this new design, you will not need to use the “Hamburger Menu” that you are accustomed to from the earlier versions of the app in day to day use.
Across the bottom of the screen, you’ll see
+ Recipes – more on this below.
+ Roast – tap this to connect to your roaster and follow progress during the roast.
+ Shop – easy access to our freshest green coffees.
+ Add – more on this below too.
Additionally, we’ve added a search function in the top right of the screen. Use this to search anything from the Roast Recipe names – for example, Brazil, or Espresso. And you can even search emojis 😉
You’ll notice during the roast the status bar now includes time to end of roast including cooling time.
Recipe Library
As before, IKAWA created roast recipes have a red icon, and there’s a different colour for your personally customised ones. In this new version of the app, we’ve added some new recipes for you to play with, building in a variety of espresso roast recipes especially.
Our newest green coffees from Kenya, Brazil and Ethiopia…look out for a post about these roast recipes soon.
The order these roast recipes appear is chronological, based on the last roasts you did.
Add & Create
As well as improving our range of recommended roast recipes, we’ve introduced the ‘Add’ option to the app, so you can make your own from scratch. When you tap Add, you’ll have the choice to scan a QR code, which comes with our green coffee packs or Create New Roast Recipe. After naming your roast, you’ll see a template roast recipe that you can iterate from. With most green coffees, it will create a good medium roast – and we’ll talk more about this in a future post.
Firmware Update
The most recent version of firmware is V24.2. If you have the most recent version of the app, you probably won’t need to update the firmware. But if you’ve not updated the app or firmware for a while, you may be prompted when you connect to your roaster. Firmware is the software that controls the hardware. One additional benefit of the app is that we can continually improve and update firmware and the app interface itself to the benefit of existing and new users.
Version V24.2 of firmware includes some updates to default settings. The update will take a couple of minutes and it will not impact on your roasts.
To access IKAWA Home App 2.0, simply go to App Store or Google Play Store and update. The app is free to download and you don’t even need a roaster to access the app!
We hope you’ve found this summary helpful and enjoy using this new app. If you have any questions or would like to provide any feedback, we’ll be happy to hear from you, please email support@ikawacoffee.com.
